Painful Self Revelations About Michael Vick

I like to think of myself as a good person. I am a father to four wonderful children. I work hard. I have five fabulous bulldogs that I dote on. I am a lifelong Eagles fan. I saw my first game as a 10 year old at Franklin Field in 1961, and many after that. And now, as I turn 60, I'm sitting in front of the TV hoping that Michael Vick gets hurt. It's not racist. Randall Cunninghan was fabulous as a person and a player. Donovan McNabb was a lucky guy to have Andy Reid and his system to make him look as good as he possibly could be. Was he Sonny Jurgensen or Ron Jaworski---or Randall Cunningham? Not even close, but I never rooted against him. But this Michael Vick----I just couldn't believe it when they Eagles signed him. Of all of the 32 teams in the NFL, why did we have to get him? So now I watch and hope he gets hurt. I can't erase the vision of him electrocuting and drowning his dogs. I really don't care about his sad story of his upbringing. Most of us had a tough upbringing. Many were abused....it was a different world then. My father used to beat me with regularity...but I never looked to injure kill or maim...I learned from it. So now I sit and watch and hope Michael Vick gets hurt so I don't have to watch him tarnish the team that I have loved ,y whole life just by being on it.

Thinking Philly Thoughts

Although I have been away from my Philadelphia roots for decades, I still find myself missing the little things that made Philly such a unique experience. Last night at the store I found myself looking for all things Philadelphia and came up with some goodies. First I found Tastykakes. Excellent. Then I found Taylor Pork Roll. Outstanding. Then, to my mazement, I found scrapple!
Breyers Ice Cream was easy. A Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak soda would have hit the spot, or even a Frank's Lime or a Tahitian Treat. Alas, Frank's is no more. There are no real cheese steaks or soft pretzels here in Las Vegas, but a Super Pretzel gave me a feel for the neighborhood and gathering the fixin's for a cheese steak was fun. Anyway, I'm now looking to find a hoagie that gets close to my memory of the Philly hoagie and I'll have a great start on a fun weekend!

Welcome to the Philadelphia Journal!

Back in the 1970's there was an exciting newspaper in Philly called the Philadelphia Journal. It tried to cover 'the rest of the story' for Philadelphians and did so until it's untimely demise a few years later. Today, the media world is vastly different, but we thought that it would be fun to bring back the spirit and the zest of the old Philadelphia Journal in an E Newspaper. We won't be competing with the Inquirer or the Daily News, but rather complementing them, as well as adding to the Philly TV, radio, and cable based information. Back in the day, the Philadelphia Bulletin had a columnist named Herm Rogul, who specialized in the rest of the story for the Philadelphia sports fan. It was must reading, and we hope we can earn that same niche with today's Philadelphia reader. Wish us luck!
